Weight Loss – Results Matter – Day 5

Blog 8JAN2012 – Results Matter – Day 5
What a wonderful day today was!  We concluded Christmas and spent a few hours taking down the tree and packaging all the ornaments, houses, angels, etc.  They are safely stored until December.
I spent thirty minutes in the sauna relaxing and listening to Jerry Clark and Artemis Lippert discuss motivational strategies.  Jerry has a series called, On the Shoulders of Giants.  The recording I listened to today was Thinking Like a Giant.  Very insightful!
I had two home cooked meals today and made it through day five of my 28-day Fast Start Program relatively unscathed.  Unscathed, meaning that I didn’t have any old habits return.
I have been jump-starting this program a bit by significantly reducing my carbohydrate intake and concentrating on complex carbohydrates to balance my meals.  Hydration, balance and moderation are key during the first week of this 28-day program.  I drink 20 ounces of water immediately after awakening to rehydrate my body from hours of sleeping.  I then switch to iced tea and keep drinking tea throughout the day.  After dinner I switch back to water.
A month ago I was not consistent with portion control.  I have been concentrating of placing a proper amount of food on my plate and not going back for seconds – something I used to do routinely.  Chewing my food thoroughly is something I’m still working on – I’ve always been a ‘fast’ eater.  If I am not thinking about it, I chew my food quickly.  If I think about it I take a smaller than normal bite and completely chew it.
Fiber is extremely important for a good lifestyle.  Soluble and insoluble fibers promote good health.  I have used psyllium for years as a soluble fiber.  I have switched to Chia seed and found that it is easy to add to my dietary selections.  I’ll continue to use Chia seed through the remainder of my 28-day program and give you my full evaluation.
I have not had any alcohol (specifically wine) since I started the 28-day program.  Other than saving money, I haven’t noticed anything unusual.  I expect to have a glass of wine on or around day 14 of this 28-day program, depending on the results at that time.  A single meal or drink that is part of the ‘old’ you is permissible anything to help break the old habit.  Sometimes you just need a ‘taste’ to get that urge out of your system.  Plan for that meal – enjoy it – and then go back to your new lifestyle.
The problem arises when you over-indulge on that one meal and add one or two more to it.  You are resetting your appetite and taste buds and you will experience some withdrawal-like symptoms.  Some physiological and most of them are psychological.  Your subconscious mind is trying to bring you back to the comfort zone of your old lifestyle.
I heard Artemis ask a couple questions today.  What belief would you have to have to fail at what you are doing?  It is an interesting question.  If you believe that changing to a new lifestyle is not worth it, then you will allow your subconscious mind to remain in control of your weight.  If you believe that you cannot make a change that is lasting, then you have to accept the result that you cannot make a change.  You have not made it to the point in your life that it is important enough for you to change.
The second question is, what belief would you have to have to continue doing what you are doing?  Both questions apply to anything you are doing in your life.  In regards to forming a new lifestyle, if you truly believe that you can do it, then you can.  The Law of Attraction states that what you think about you become (paraphrasing).  If you think you cannot create a new lifestyle for yourself, you will not.  If you think you can, then you can.  Your thinking is critical.  That is why I spend so much time during the first seven days of my 28-day program attempting to get your mind altered to work for you.
Do you really believe that changing your lifestyle will result in lost weight?  You are where you are today based on the lifestyle you have been living for the past years or decades.  Your weight and fat content is the result of your lifestyle.  It is a result of the decisions you made to live the lifestyle you chose to live.
